Meet our faculty. . .

Joey Hernandez

Originally from the Midwest, Joey Hernandez is a first-generation college graduate, holding a B.A. and M.F.A. in Dance from Beloit College and Mills College, respectively. Joey has extensively worked in collegiate dance education, teaching courses at Beloit College, Carthage College, Mills College, Diablo Valley College, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and the University of Wisconsin Madison.

Most recently, Joey has embarked on an exciting new chapter in Southern California, where he teaches Hip Hop and Dance History at the prestigious Orange County School of the Arts.

Before joining the collegiate ranks, Joey established his reputation as a dance professional, serving as faculty at Millennium Dance Complex Chicago. Additionally, during his time in the Bay Area at Full Out Studios (Oakland, CA) Joey continued to contribute to the dance community.

Notable highlights of Joey's performance career include Carnival Los Angeles & Chicago, Robert Moses Kin, Summerfest (Milwaukee, WI), and Legends in Concert (Las Vegas, NV). Joey's choreography credits include Chicago's Choreographers Carnival, Wisconsin Sports Awards, and Marin School of the Arts.

Recognized for his expertise, Joey has been invited as a guest instructor at DePaul University (Chicago, IL), Athletic Garage (Pasadena, CA), and East Coast Edge (Boston, MA). He has also been a featured instructor for Dance Masters of America and Platinum Performance Plus Dance Convention. For the past decade, Joey has had the privilege of being a trusted judge for Applause Talent and StarQuest International.
